Zafira - removing ignition key does not switch off

    Hi

We are having a problem with our X-reg Zafira which is getting worse
and will eventually leave us stranded somewhere so I need to do
    something about it.

Quite often when you remove the ignition key the radio stays on and
when you open the driver's door the alarm sounds - the key switch is
getting confused thinking the key is still in the ignition lock when it
    is not.

To get round this there are 2 methods - insert key again and pull it
out slowly (the wife's method) or insert key again, twist to position 1
and then back down and out (my method). It can take quite a bit of
fiddling to get the key switch to acknowledge that they key has been
    removed.

My question....is this a replacement ignition switch job (sounds
expensive) or can it perhaps be cured with a bit of oil in the right
place? Perhaps someone else has had the same problem.

    Many thanks

    Paul

I wouldn't oil it - all you are oiling is the bit the key goes into. The
electrical bit is a separate unit screwed on the back of the lock part. I
would guess it just wants a new one - about £30 and an hour to fit.

We are having the same problem as this is a zafira 04 petrol we have oiled the lock and now and again the circle around where the key goes will pop out but the ignition still stays on When I am parked up for too long it flattens the battery
