This might sound like a daft/simple question but here goes anyway.....

How long do you get when the petrol light comes on,on the dashboard.

There you go......told you it was a simple one.

Cheers

It measures remaining fuel, not time ;-).....I've pushed my wife's
Zafira into the red before now on a couple of occasions, I reckon
there's about a gallon in the tank when the light comes on, assuming
level ground.

I've done 40 mile with the light on without running out in my 2.0DTI.
Nerves were setting in by this time though!

Hi

I think its around 10 litres or 2 gallons when light on and 5 litres when it
starts flashing.

But if its like mine it wont actually start flashing until you start the car
next day where the level has magically dropped down overnight.

+ they are so unrealiable!
just like the gauge itself.
you can never trust it.

It probably varies, so I if you really want some certainty, I suggest you
fill to the brim as soon as poss after light comes on, then work it out
based on tank capacity, litres to fill up and adjust for the miles between
light coming on and filling-up.

Mind you - your result depends on the true tank capacity. A while ago, we
ran very low and just made it to a fuel stop, whereupon the car (non-Vaux)
took noticeably more than the "official" tank capacity!

Many thanks to all.......

I've stuck some petrol in cos i'd hate it to grind to a halt when im miles
away up in the hills.

At least i know that if i reckon on about 30 miles from light coming on then
i should be ok (ish!!)

Cheers

Dave :)

The tank on my signum is supposed to be 61 litres. The most I have put in
it is 52 litres when the trip computer said there was only 22 miles left (at
about 48mpg). I think they must hide the last gallon from you to make sure
you don't run out.

Thanks again......
