My last few cars have all been Vauxhalls, and have never given me too\nmuch grief, despite doing 200K+ miles.\nHowever, my latest one certainly is giving me grief.\n\nI was wondering if anyone had any thoughts / ideas that might give me\nsome ideas?\n\nSATURDAY. Bought a Zafira 2.2i petrol 02 reg. 111K miles, FSH, could\nnot see any probs with it.\nDrove approx 50 miles, then engine management light came on. Still\ndrove fine.\nUnfortunately all the garages were closed until Monday.\n\nMONDAY. Started the car. Engine management light still on.\nTook it into the Vauxhall dealer, who read the fault code as faulty EGR\nvalve, and said it needed to be replaced (£208).\nThey also reset the engine management light.\nThe garage I bought it from said get the Vauxhall garage to fix it and\nthey would reimburse me, but unfortunately the Vauxhall garage did not\nhave the part.\nDrove it for 50 miles then the engine management light came on again.\n\n\nTUESDAY AFTERNOON.\nStarted fine. Running fine. Engine management light now OFF.\nMy wife drove about 2 miles, then the car stalled. She said some white\nsmoke came from the engine compartment at the time.\nAny thoughts as to whether this could be related to the EGR valve?\nCar would not start. But wife says it was still turning over fine.\n\nTUESDAY NIGHT\nAttempted to start the car, but it would hardly turn over.\nPossibly a smell like burnt cables - but not sure about this.\nCouldn't see any.\nGot some helpful people to push start it.\nDrove around for 5 miles with no problem.\nI figured that that should have recharged the battery.\nWent to start it again 1 hour later.\nBattery seemed totally flat.\nI can't imagine this being anything to do with the valve.\nAnyone any ideas?\n\n\nMany thanks for your help.\n\nKen Morrow.\n\nTo email me remove the letter after ken in the address, otherwise it\nwill be automatically deleted.
