Somebody bent the nearside door mirror back on itself today with the result
that the black edging that surrounds the glass portion and attaches to the
painted shell was cracked on the top edge.

I assume the black edging can be clipped off in some way so I can glue the
plastic and make a neat repair but after trying to prise it off it has
    remained stubbornly attached.

Anyone know an easy way of getting the black edging off the door mirror
    outer shell?

I'll check on wifey's Zafira wehen I get home, but I suspect the black
trim is actually part of the main body of the mirror housing, which
the body coloured outer shell clips into - at least that's been the
case on the Cavalier / Omega / Vectra / Astra mirrors I've taken to
    bits.

Thank you airsmoothed. Generally is it just a clip off method or are there
some sneaky screw / clips hidden away you have to undo ? Hopefully if the
painted shell clips off with reasonable ease and does not self destruct, I
will be able to repair the broken bit while it is still on the car.

I think you will have problems getting these parts for your mirror and if it has been bent forward there will be more damage internally,
Just had to replace my drivers mirror after the thieving barstewards round my end tried to pinch mine but all they did was buggered the mirror case and mounting but was away with my mirror glass,
If you go the new mirror way you have to remove the door card and there are two screws holding the mirror to the door, they are behind the two pop out plugs inside the door, attach a small magnet to the TORQ screwdriver shaft before removing these two screws or you will end up losing them inside the door adding more work to be done getting them out.
