After stopping, on starting to move there is a big squeal from the rear
breaks...Any ideas anyone NB handbrake remains off so have discounted that
    as the problem

Have you talked to a Vauxhall dealer? Depending on age/model/mileage it
could have a rear calliper problem. We had a number of these and there were
a variety of cures during the years.

Having said that, it probably just needs new pads!

Alan. I've just been working on a Zafira, which the customer had complained
of a noisy exhaust, or so he thought. At first it did sound like the
exhaust, but after inspection we found the side engine mount had split in
two. The two bolts that hold the centre mount are far smaller than the holes
which go through the support bracket. I assume that the vibration has caused
the mount to fail. Just thought you might be interested in this titbit, as
it could prove to be a common fault.

This is a known problem with the rear discs. There is a modifcation kit
which includes new discs and calipers, pads etc. Mine were fitted at a cost
of £500!! but Vauxhall eventually coughed up and paid the lot.
