Zafira ashtray light

The ashtray of the 2003 model has a clear panel in the upper surface
which permits ilumination when the ashtray is open.

Is the light very dim (just discernible) or has the lamp failed and the
light I can see is from the heater switch lamps?

I've just gone out and checked the ashtray light on my wife's Zaf. and
the glow is very subtle, so either it is designed that way, or we've
both got blown bulbs;-)

another vehicle for comparison.

Yes, mine too is very dim. It looks like it doesn't really have a light of
its own just a window to the lamp behind the heating controls.

I am most grateful for your responses. At least I do not have to work
out how to replace a bulb, which is good news for me.

Yep, dash bulb ( and foglights for that matter) replacement always
seems to involve a good deal of swearing and breaking of plastic tabs
these days :-/
