After an accident (front and rear shunt on motorway) my car now has
low power, a reduced top speed and hig fuel consumption (average
31mpg). Any idea what might be causing it?

I also no longer have an exhaust emission light on the dashboard and
Vauxhall are telling me that I never had one (I remember it and my
user manual says I should have one?). Does anyone have an X Reg 2.0DTi
(2001 model) Opel Zafira who can confirm Vauxhall are or are not
correct? Are Vauxhalls of the same age different?

Vauxhall used the same excuse with the trailer indicator repeat light.
I just think they don't know how to fix it and have given up!

I'll check in my X reg Opel zafira manual when I get home ( in case
the diesel is different); but my 1.8 certainly has an emission control
light, which as discussed here a few days ago uses the symbol most
other GM cars use for the engine management light i.e. an oultine of an
    engine in amber.

Have VX checked the state of the Cat ?( I assume diesels have Cat of
sorts?) if this was blocked due to damage from impact it might well
give the symptoms you describe IMHO.

Find another dealer - sounds like you have maybe an air leak or intercooler
    damage causing your problems.

After a tailgate party I agree with me140. Accident damage that has not
been repaired properly or at all. Damaged intercooler, pipe off or
broken or (as a pal found out) a damaged air mass sensor.
Note that if it is accident damage you can get the Ins Co. to pay for
it. My pal did with the air mass sensor on his old escort.
