Hi, on our 1.6 zafi the over heating prevention warning light (fan on
rad) comes on with the fan when we're in slow traffic. The fan doesn't
come on at any other time and the gauge never goes above 90 ish. Putting
the heater on full stops it happening. I suspect theres a switch thats
not working for the fans normal operation. Anyone seen this before?

TIA Niel.

Really you need to get it plugged into a diagnostic machine to see what
fault codes are stored in the memory but there are a couple of things you
can check yourself if you don't mind getting dirty. The control unit for
the fans is in front of the nearside front wheel - you will need to take the
plastic trim off to get to it. With the ignition off unplug the 2 plugs and
make sure the connections are clean and dry. Also check all the fuses,
especially the ones under the bonnet.
If your Zaf is under warranty ignore my ramblings and take it to your
dealer.

Thanks, I'll check it first, the supplying stealer (non franchised)
still owes me money, no way are they getting near the car!

If the car is less than 3 years old and has done less than 60,000 mls
you can take it to any proper franchised Vauxhall dealer for waranty work.

Over 3 years old.

Well I took the bumper off, checked the connections all looked ok, had a
good look at the board in the unit (multi-layer PCB so not a diy item).
Then a good look at all the related wiring. Guess what I found, the loom
had been cut off that goes to the front fan on the air-con rad! I
guesitmated the wiring and got that working, now everything seems to be
working normally. Engine gets hot, front fan cuts in, engine cools, fan
goes off! No warning light, no large fan behind the rad comming on.

Anyone know a friendly dealer/independent around the
portsmouth/southampton area to check the error codes?

Also, anyone able to tell me the correct colour codes for the wires and
where they should go on the fan connector.

Thanks Niel.

Pity you don't post anything useful retard.
You do not need to take the car to a dealer.
Do the paperclip test on the diagnostic socket and find the results
yourself.

Does that trick work on the Zafira then?
