nothing to do with the MOT
    centre bars are not compulsory
although there is a general 'rule of thumb' that most testers use
ie if it was built with the light it should work.

the only problems i can see is if it were to display offensive language etc
    etc
then the PC police [the police] could caution you to remove it
like illegal numberplates and blue lights

It's what some posters should do if they're thinking about spouting
    nonsense ;-)

Hmmm arse and thumb are not two words that I like to see too close together.

Maybe it is a new version of stone, scissors, paper? Arse, thumb, hammer?

So how would you fail it - the computer has no drop down selection or fail
code for it, and it is not even on the test so you can't fail it legally.

Would you issue an advisory note (assuming they are free text, not
predetermined items) and a warning about Mr Plod?

i dont think testers would be too pleased to see it on a car and would
probably recommend to the boss he advises the owner to take the car
    elsewhere it were offensive etc.
nothing like rubbing the powers that be up the wrong way.
i can just read the news now, test centre passes car displaying '**** you
    arsehole' brake light display.
    interesting discussions would follow soon!

i think your method would p'haps be correct

I think they should be on a test as a fail no matter what it says on it.
I have seen a close call with two cars, all because the car behind saw the
message and read it not realizing that it was connected to the breaks.

sorry but this smells of stupidity both ways.
one for the owner installing such a light
two for the driver behind not paying attention to the normal twin brakes
    lights

    whos in the wrong?

to be honest, id book the following care for due care and attention
