I've been having problems starting my Calibra and I'm in the process of
replacing the coil, what does it actually do?

  2. Turns 12v (power usually sent to it from cars computer on modern cars) into
several thousand volts, which is then fed to your distributer through HT
leads, then to each of your spark plugs in turn to produce a spark to ignite
    your fuel in your cylinders.

Without a coil, you can't geta high voltage, and don't get a spark so your
    engine wil not fire

  3. How do you know that the coil is causing the problem if you don't know what
    it does?
