    Hi all,

We've borrowed my dads Vectra for the week to take on a long trip but there
is a warning symbol on the dashboard. Don't know if it matters or not but
it's an 03 plate Vectra Elite.
The symbol is a circle surrounded by 3 lines each side. We are guessing it's
something to do with the brakes or maybe not? Details on this fault would
    be great!

Any help would be greatly appriciated as we have a 300mile trip to do on
Tuesday with our 15month old daughter in the car too and I'm a nervouse mum
    & passenger!

    Regards,

    Lisa.

Does the symbol look anything like a light bulb? Could be a lamp has failed
    somewhere,

    Hi,

No it's the a lightbulb. It's a perfect circle shape surrounded by an outer
circle which has been sliced up into 6 bits....hope that makes sense!
The back brakes do rub when used so are pretty sure it's that...just want to
    be on the safe side

Have you looked in the cars handbook for an explanation of the dashboard
warning lights ? I would think the handbook will still be in the car
glovebox / under the seat (tray) or in the boot.

    [hand]brake sensor
will show if the pads are rubbing.

Make sure that when you take the handbrake off you push the lever all the
way down before you release the button on the lever.

Isn't rubbing how the brakes work?

I thought the circle with a "P" in was the parking/hand brake, the one
with the "!" in the brake fluid, and probably the one you mention is
the low pad warning and has nothing to do with the handbrake. The
handbrake works on shoes within the disc, assuming that there are disc
    brakes on the rear.

I have an older Vectra and the only symbol that resembles your
description is the traction control warning light. This is a circle
broken into 8 small arcs surrounding the letters TC. Both Brake warning
indicators are circles with two parallel arcs either side resembling
"external" brake shoes. It may be worth switching the TC on and off to
see if that has an effect?
