I have read in many sites about how diesel engines can run on vegetable
oil. And many people have posted that they have registered with customs
& excise to use veg oil in there cars.

I like know if anyone has used veg oil in a New Zafira 1.9 CDTi. All I
know is that the 1.9 CDTi is a common rail diesel engine.

If anyone has any knowledge of this if its possible or not?
    Questions would
    1. does the engine need modification
    2. does it do any damage to the engine
    3. can veg oil be used as bought directly from Tesco, out of container
    and in to the tank

The questions you ask are simple enough. It is not so much the car that
needs modification but the vegetable oil needs mixing with Methanol. and the
resultant mixture washed. Your car will need a new fuel filter after you
start using Biodiesel. Beware that some companies are selling a percentage
mix such as 80% ordinary diesel and 20% Bio at only a slight reduction in
cost. Go for the 100% if you can which retails about 80p - £1 litre

Here's a link to get you started...

There has been a problem with some new cars and their fuel pumps so if yours
is new new then ask before using.

    PS

I forgot to mention, if you make it yourself - which you can - the cost is
approx 40p per Litre tax paid all legit etc etc

I think you are asking can you run a modern diesel on chip pan oil
rather than using biodiesel? Whilst much older diesels can be made to
run partly on veg oil, any modern diesel will quickly destroy its fuel
pump as there is little lubrication in veg oil. The pumps run at very
fine tolerances and cost about £1,800 to replace. The metal swarf will
be spread throughout the engine and big bills will follow as Vauxhall
will not entertain this sort of damage under warranty. It is the same
damage as occurs when diesels are mis-fueled with petrol and then
    started.
