Vectra with no tickover???????

I recently bought a 1.8 Vectra with a broken belt.
When I removed the head it had 12 out of the 16 valves bent.
I had a replacement head but it came from a 2.0 Vectra rather than a 1.8.

I decided to use the 2.0 head and rebuilt the engine.
The car started but would not tickover and ran very roughly if I revved the
    engine at 800 rpm.
I replaced the idle control valve but this did not solve the problem.
I'm not sure if having a 2.0 head on a 1.8 block is the cause of the problem
    or the fault is elsewhere.
By the way the management light goes out when I start the engine so there
    are no codes to check.

Any help or suggestions what to try next would be appreciated.

  2. question:

why would vaxhall make a diffrent head for each type of engine.
if u have a 1.8 the use a 1.8 head. just cause it seams to fit and work dont
mean it will. use the right parts first time save yourslef a lot of hassle.
