    Hi

I'm getting a strange clunk through the steering wheel of my Vectra (T 1999).
Most times when I turn left (not even on full lock) I can feel and hear it.
Doesn't seem to be affecting the actual wheel position on the road.

I realise that there are a number of universal joints in the column.
Is it likely to be in the column ?

    thanks

    Michael.

Just been in contact with a friend at Vauxhall's warranty company.
I'm told this will be the Universal joint sliding shaft.
    Anyone known :

1, the book time for this to be replaced
2, whether it is practical for diy ?

    Cheers
    Michael.

I had 2 Vectras with this problem, both had a
    new `rack' fitted under NetworkQ..

    And is a common problem.

    Hi Alan,

Went to the local dealer, seemed that even with a contribution from
Vauxhall is was going to cost me more than the parts. Given that it
looked a simple job, I've done it myself. It wasn't too bad and the
    steering is good again.

Thanks for the advice guys. A very useful NG.
Now the next problem is to find what is rattling, either something in
the roof lining or the exhaust heat shield.

    Cheers
