vectra oil leak

  1. Hi all,

I have a 1998 2.0l 16v vectra and it has a persistent oil leak from the
rocker cover. It has had 4 rocker cover gaskets in a year each time it has
had to be also sealed with loads of silicone yet after a month or two the
leak returns. The rocker cover itself is a shit plastic one (nice to see
vauxhall use quality items in their vehicles) and I was wondering if this
could be the reason? maybe it has warped? Is it possible to buy a metal
    rocker cover at all?

Could anyone suggest any reasons for the persistant leak and any potential
remedies please as I am naturally worried about knackering the engine, cost
of replacing the oil and basically pissed off and frustrated that nothing
    seems to be working.

thanks in advance for any help

    cheers

    daz

Yes you might ahve a warped rocker cover ( not sure if you can buy a
metal one) or maybe the breather pipes connected to the cover are
blocked, causing excess pressure & hence oil leakage.?

Airsmoothed is right - check the engine breathers - pull the little pipe off
the rocker cover and with the engine running it should be sucking from the
pipe side not the rocker side - usually block up where it goes into the
    throttle body.

  4. Cheers guys i'll check that breather pipe out.

I rang the local Vauxhall dealership today enquiring about the price of a
new rocker cover. £104, thieving bastards its only bloody plastic.

On a 98 Vectra I suspect the engine is a 'black top' rather than 'red
top', like my 2L Omega, the 'black top' is a different cover.

Probably worth giving the likes of autovaux a try, I've used them in
the past for various bits & pieces. www.autovaux.co.uk; but they don't
always answer e-mails promptly, so I'd phone first .
