Vectra Oil Filter & Plugs Location

Discussion in 'Vectra' started by group_stuff_etc, Jun 9, 2006.

  1. (X Reg / 1.8 Ecotec)

On the front of the engine adjacent the Cat' is an aluminium casting
with the name of a filter manufacturer (Hengst) on it, on the end is a
24mm hexagon. I assume is the oil filter casing into which I pop a new
element - or does it come complete? i.e. like my old J reg escort.

While changing the oil & filter I'll replace the air filter (no problem
locating that) and take a look at the plugs. Removing the plastic
Ecotec cover exposes a distribution rail over the centre of the engine
    - presumably if I remove the Torx screws securing the rail it gives me
    access to the plugs.

Can anyone confirm if my assumptions are correct?

The 24mm top part comes undone - if you are lucky and it hasn't been over
    tightened in the past.
The plugs are under the black coil pack - just undo the screws.

Pop into your local kwik fit and see if they do oil/filter changes. Mine do
it on our cars for £10, and thats with semi-synthetic. Got to say though
    that No 1 son
works there, but I know other people who get it done for same price.
Mentioned son as I can be sure I'm really getting semi.

    PS

I'd have been surprised to be quoted £10 given their tyre prices!

In Derby there's a long established family run business that beat
Kwik-Fit hands down on Like4Like tyres without haggling, and not just a
few pence or couple of quid either.

But thanks for the suggestion and your comments anyway

Called on No. 1 son at work and mentioned that our zaf was soon in need of
filter&oil. he mumbled something about about it having gone up a bit but
that he would "sort something out". Ah well, I suppose it help to have
    connections....:)
