Hi today one of the girls at work asked me to fit a new headlight bulb in
her vectra today, the one that was in had stopped working, anyway to cut to
the chase the new bulb made no difference, anyone got an idea where I go
    from here.

You could try (in no particular order)...

    # check on full and dipped beams

    # check fuse (but only if each headlight has its own fuse)

    # test both filaments of the bulb you took out

    # swap the L + R headlight bulbs

    # test for voltage on the connecting plug (you'll need a meter)

    # look for dirty contacts on the bulb holder plug

    # check bulb's fully pushed into connector

Don't bother to insert bulb in back of lens until its working - just plug
straight into connector. Otherwise you'll wreck your hands and waste time.

Once it's working, clean glass on bulb carefully (I believe meths or alcohol
is ok for this, but wipe dry before it all evaporates) then replace bulb
    without touching the glass.

    Hope she's worth it :)
