Vectra Engine Management Warning Light

Recently, the dashboard warning light for the engine management computer has
been lighting up on my Vectra. This mainly happens when the engine is hot.
The car is a 1998 2.0 petrol.

I am currently too nervous about taking it to a dealer, in case they quote
me a frightening price for a new computer :-(

Does anyone on here have any experience of this?

Any help much appreciated.

best idea would be to pull the codes
simple job with a paper clip, this will tell you why it is coming on.
checked all fluid levels?
oil
brake
steering
washer
etc
etc
