my 96 p 1.8 vectra sometimes cuts out when comimg to a halt. then it will be
ok for weeks and then start cutting out again. could this be the fuel filter
needs replacing? or something more serious

  2. The most likely cause is a sticking Idler motor.

  3. It's a common problem with vectras. My brother in law had exactly the same
symptoms It's more than likely to be the hot wire idle control sensor
located between the air filter and manifold. Sometimes removing and cleaning
with a carb spray fixes the problem, but usually not for long. The air
temperature sensor located next to it can also cause this, but my bet would
    be on the first.
I think the're quite expensive to buy but fitting is easy.

  5. Don't know for sure but reckon that they wouldn't. Part of the problem is
getting the fault to occur when the car's in the garage!

is the hot wire idle control sensor the same as the idle air control valve.
somebady on a website has said it could be that.

  7. It's not a valve as such but it could be what they meant.
I would put money on this being the problem.

Had to replace breather from camshaft cover to air ducting, so i cleaned
butterfly valve and IACV at the same time. The local vaux dealer gave me a
can of carb cleaner when i bought the hose!!!!!

Very unlikely. Of the hundreds I have tested, I have not retrieved a code
    regarding a sticking iac valve.
