My vectra does not want to start anymore, went to the garage to repair, but
they can't get to communicate with the computer, the get the message that
there is no communication. Is the computer dead?
They tell me this is gonna cost me over 1500 euros, and they say its a
common problem... Can opel get away with this?
If this is a commom opel problem, then my next car won't be opel anymore!!
Can anyone tell me if there are some steps I can take?
    Thanks

check for dampness etc on multiway plug on ECU.
make sure it is seated correctly, is the plug rubber boot intact?

Failed communication is NOT a common problem on Vectras. I scan over a dozen
each week and have found them to be one of the most reliable systems on the
market. There is a method to pull the codes without special equipment, which
can be performed by following the instructions at the following link:

If your garage is finding a number of Vectras are failing to communicate, I
would suggest that they have their scanner tested for defects.

Check that when you put the ignition your engine management light aslo comes
    on - orange engine pic.
If not check the fuse. It is hidden next to the battery. You need to
disconnect the multi plug - just turns - and then lift up the cover. Fuse
is the large maxi type. If it is blown you need to find out why.
