I have an R reg vectra and my problems started yesterday when the
electronic engine alert symbol kept coming on and every time I stopped
at lights etc the car stalled.

I was going to take it to a garage today but neither of my remote key
fobs would unlock the doors. Batteries are fine.

So I opened the door manually and the alarm went off. I tried putting
the key in the ignition but everything is dead.

I can't turn the alarm off because the key fobs no longer unlock the
door and I guess the immobiliser is activated because the car is
completely dead when I put in the key in.

    Please what can I do?

    check your car battery voltage,
check battery connections are good and tight and not corroded under the
    terminal clamps
check ALL earth straps. engine to body, gearbox to body.
    see if that cures it.

if not, you say you can get in via the key.
then follow the instruction for disabling the immobiliser via ignition turn
    ons/off.

look in your owners manual for resetting the key fobs routine and see if one
can be made to operate the car or be reset.

if all else fails, disconnect the battery for a few hours.

my guess is your car battery has gone dead.

    Thanks for the help.

It turns out I had three things all gone wrong at once. The Alternater
died, the chip in the key bust and the idle air control valve got
    clogged up.

Even vuaxhall couldn't do anything to start with because the imboliser
wouldn't turn off. Just glad it's sorted now :)
