My 4 year old Vectra, in the last 18 months, has had the common problem of stalling whilst idling.

It's been into the garage about 4 times. Initially the ECU codes pointed to the MAF sensor. The garage checked this out: 1) did the very thorough clean of the throttle casing, 2) new MAF sensor, 3) thorough clean again etc with good results for a short while. However recently the problem has returned with a vengeance; at first intermittently and now almost continuously. But there are no fault codes this time.

Also the bottom part of the mileage and trip meter goes missing. This too used to be just now and again but recently it is permanent.

Could there be a relationship with the two things, or is it coincidence.

I was wondering about a faulty connection somewhere, but where?

Any help would be much appreciated.

  3. I would consider taking it to a dealer.

    The 2 problems are unrelated.

You probably have a duff bulb or connection in the instrument lights.

With regards the stalling, it sounds like an idle air control valve.

    Had same problem on a 1999 T.
It turned out to be an plug fault that was causing the ECU to panic.
Changed the plugs/leads it went away.

After 10k it returned. this time I changed the coilpack.
25k since and no further problems.

Thank you all for your feedback. The car's booked in and I'll let the professionals have a go at it (again).
