Vauxhall Autobox Swapability Question

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by Douglas Payne, Oct 21, 2003.

  1. Hello
    I've got a 1992 2.6 carlton with a 4 speed, electronically controlled
automatic gearbox (designated AR25/35 by haynes if indeed that means
anything to anyone). The gearbox is knackered I reckon (engages 1st but
misses and revs to buggery when it tries to engage any other gear) and
reconditionment isnt a very attractive proposition as I only payed three
hundred notes for the car, and have been quoted as much as £1500 for a recon
    box from Mr Vauxhall.

    So...

    1) I was wondering if autoboxes from later 1.8, 2.0 and 3.0 Carltons are the
same as they (especially these smaller capacity ones) seem rather easier to
source from any Mr Scrappy than 2.6 models round these parts.

    2) Long shot but can anyone tell me if this autobox is used in Omegas or any
other vauxhalls. I figure there's more chance of finding good Omegas on the
    pile.

    Thanks
    Douglas

It would seem, looking at Vauxhall Tech disc that your gearbox is the only
one for that engine!(Part no 96015031 Trans code KE).
All the automatic gearboxes are very similar in design and mechanics the
main difference is the Vavles within which our of different size depending
    on engine etc.
The later gearboxeson the Carlton I believe are different to the AR25/35
