I have a 2000 astra club 1600 16V and the timing belt is due for renewal.
Looking at previous postings it is better to change the idler pulleys when
you do the belt. However some of the timing belts kits have metel pulleys
and some have plastic. Does it matter which type is fitted to the engine or
does it go by engine serial number.

Buy a genuine Vauxhall kit and you will get the right ones. I recommend
sticking to genuine belts/rollers whatever the make.
