why not also just check out the cost of a new one?
when my old vectra one went 'dotty' i thought they would be expensive, so i
made the mistake of looking round some scrapyards for one.
    1-they are pretty rare
2-chances of seeing it working before you buy are next to nil
3-"if it dont work then bring it back and we'll replace it" yeah? with what?
ever tried getting a cash refund from a scrappys?
4-they charge most of the price of a new one anyhow.

I ended up getting one from main agents, which although i apologise for not
being able to remember the cost, it surprised me how cheap it really was.
But i did ring round a few as the price seemed to vary a bit between
dealerships. but ring for prices first then try repairing it before you buy,
just as in that excellent link that Loaded posted for all to see (nice one
    mate!)
