My sons Corsa is having some problems
At about 40 mph if he puts his boot down a bit the engine tries to stall
Only picks up again after he backs off the pedal

So far following a TECH2 he has replaced
EGR Valve and The Idle Air Valve

1 Suggestion has been the Throttle stepper motor

Anyone else experience anything like this on a Corsa

Unfortunately the lad is in kent and i am in Cornwall.
So i can only pass this info on for now.
He visits for Xmas ( gonna be slow getting here if at all)
so i can have a look then.
Thats why i am trying to gleen as much info as possible
    at this moment in time.

    TIA

stepper motor? do you mean the throttle potentiometer?
if so i'd say prime candidate, if u can give it a squirt with switch cleaner
    (NOT WD40!!)
replacement is better, cheap & quite easy to do

    anyway..
    how about the
    fuel pump
    fuel pump relay
    fuel filter

could even be the cam sensor!

latterly of the ECU itself, hope not though.
one is very rare , the other is common.

    hope this help

    Cheers Mike.
I personally have never stuck my head under the bonnet of a corsa.
I assume this "potentiometer" is attatched at some point to the carb or
    throttle cable.

    Any ideas on-:

    What it looks Like?
    Where its Located?
    Cheers .

  4. Alright my man, you were spot on there, i had this same problem in an old
nova i had, the problem was indeed a fuel pump, also this can occur on
vehicles that are not fuel injected, as when u boot it, it puts more petrol
into the cylinders than it can burn, and so it backs up with petrol.

replacing the fuel pump should get it sorted, but if its not a fuel injected
model, he might just have to live with it(although im pretty sure that the
corsa's are all injection after an N reg, so u should be ok)

a temporary solution is to just ever so gradually ease on the throttle to
avoid it backing up for now, but when you hit about 70ish it will happen
again, but its better than 40.

hope u managed to get some good info out of this mate.

    merlin out.

That sounds like a better explanation of what is actually happening.

since you mention you had the car tech diagnosed, what did the machine say?
was there a fault. my guess would be the crank sensor failing under load,
however without a good diagnostic you are clutching at straws. does the
engine rev normally stood still? or does this occur at certain engine speed?

    say?

The Diagnoses showed EGR and Air Intake Valve Steve.
    Replacement "Did Not Cure".
I would have thought that cam sensor etc would have shown on the TECH2
Please Correct me if i am wrong .
    engine speed?

    Yes Engine ticks over ok.

EMS light only comes on for a short time whilst the fault is occurring.

    eg -:
When engine tries to cut out if foot hard down at about 40

So far i'm inclined toward the petrol pump as pointed out by Merlin.

Any other suggestions are Gratefully rec'd

    Cheers Steve.

Check for a blocked exhaust or catalyser, as this would affect the egr
system and generate such a code.
