    I have just bought a '98 Vauxhall Corsa which has the most basic stereo in
    it. It does not turn on and off with the ignition. Looking in the manual
    only the higher spec ones do this. My question is if I get hold of a second
    hand higher spec stereo is it a straight swap or will I have to add or
    change the wiring for this this feature to work?

    Thanks in advance for any advice.

    i would think the wiring is all there, just plug 'n' play.
    they certainly don't make different dash loom par the items wanted in 'that;
    model.
    just that they fitted a basic stereo.

    If you install a vauxhall unit one all should be well. If you go for another
    make (Sony etc), you
    may find that you need to swap a permanent live wire over, so you don't
    lose your stations, Halfords (did) do a conversion if you needed it.

    Just alter the +12V wiring of the unit to an ignition controlled feed.
