    Hi,
I´m removing a steering gear (left-hand power steering) from my -92 Astra ,
but how can I now get it out of the engine compartment.
Has anybody done this , it seems hopeless.
    Please !

  2. Part of the answer seems to be take it partly out of the large rubber
grommet in the right hand wheel arch and then manipulate it up through the
    engine compartment.

That is what the book says anyway!

It would take me some time to copy out of the haynes manual if you do not
    have one.

    Cheers

I did read it from the haynes manual in library yesterday, but I couldn´t get
    it out like that.
Maybe it´s just a lack of faith (or a lack of brains).

    Thanks anyway !
(it´s snowing here now , I´ll dry again later)

  5. What are you twittering on about?

To cheap to pay a garage, If I can avoid that I will, as I would think many
    others on this forum.

Sometimes we have to. I just had the power steering rack replaced on my
Vectra with a refurbished one, and I am now several hundred pounds lighter,
the reason I could not do it myself was my inability to drop the rear
engine subframe from underneath the car, whilst lying on my back on a
    crawler under the car.

If I decided to buy a new rack it would have been in excess of £400 for the
    rack itself.

Here is another reason not to use a garage, especially a Vauxhall dealer
unless you have a gold mine in the back yard. I had to visit one todayand
overheard a phone call on the next service desk.

"The trip meter is not working as the light behind it has gone and it is not
covered under warranty, It will be £53 to replace it if you wish us to do
it? Yes OK, it should still be ready for 5 p.m."

    Where is your spirit

    Cheers
