I want to either get a gloss or if i'm feeling brave a matt black finish on
my astra, I was wondering what the most cost efficient types of paint there
are and their prices per litre. I already have a friend who has access to a
high grade spray system so I just really need to know what the average
prices are before I start inquiring at specialists so I can recognise a good
    price.

    Cheers!

P.S Sorry if some ppl get pissed at me for posting two threads I thought
this would be better as a different thread.

    warning:
I am not an expert, I have read a couple of books and think I know all there
is to know about painting, but I don't know sh*t.

Enamel paint is the most cost effective but has several major drawbacks.
One is that you cannot paint on top of it for several years, and then only
    with more enamel.

Cellulose is next and the best for non-professionals as it provides good
gloss and doesn't have any health risks.

2 pack is the most expensive (at my local paint supplier) and gives the best
results, but it is based on cyanide and will kill you if you if you don't
    take appropriate safety measures.

I would recommend reading a few books on the subject, Haynes Car Body Reapir
Manual and always ask for a data sheet when buying paint.

If your friend has access to 'high grade paint system' surely he knows what
he is doing and can recommend?

I am no expert but suspect that the equipment should not/cannot be used for
all systems so this will determine it?

There is also another system which is common use at 'proper' bodyshops.
Water based. This is different again. There are disadvantages to using it
but it doesn't contain cyanide! It also needs an oven!

    warning:
I think ill go for cellulose then, any ideas about the best place to
purchase it? I'll have a quick search on the web now but any pointers would
    be great!

    what
I didn't say she knew how to use it, she just has access :) I should really
speak to her dad about it I guess but I wanted to see how much it would cost
to do it myself, since he said that i'm welcome to use it as long as I pay
for the paint and don't abuse it.
