    Hi All,

Have a slight problem with my 1997 (R) Veccy. Recently I noticed an oily
substance on my nearside front wheel, today I took the wheel off and the
substance is in fact grease. The grease looks like it's coming from the CV
joint, and after speaking to my local garage they have said it sounds like I
have a 'split CV boot'. They are asking for £40 to fix the problem - how
much of a job is this to do or should I just take it to the garage. Also is
this something that needs urgently looking at. Second question (not sure if
it's a problem), at high revs and speed I get this 'air rushing' sound
coming from one of the front wheels - changing up a gear of lifting off the
throttle seems to stop the noise. Could this be related to the whole CV
    joint lack of grease thing?

    Many thanks

    Dan

if the boot is split, then road crap will get in, noise level will go up.
it might be related to the boot, or it might be a wheel bearing.
    i'd get the boot changed.

swapping the boot for a new one is simple, but taking the bits off to get to
be able to do that, it a pain.
£40...not bad, if that is with parts etc. i'e end price you pay inc vat
