Scan or diagnostic tool

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by Adrian Hodgson, Oct 18, 2005.

  1. Has anyone used the equipment that has one of the ELelse'scexperienceVectra
96 vintage with any success. Such as the one from Scantool that is sold
    through Gendam limited.

I suspect it may work but would like to know anyone else's experience
    first.

  2. Use the paperclip trick.
    It's free and it works.

  3. I know that and yes it works for the Engine.

But on other pins are the diagnostic for the ABS, the air bag system et al.

And beside the paper clip system can not store live information from the
engine during a run as some of the software available free does.

Hence the question if anyone has used the device on an 96 vetra

    Cheers

No, but all the info that I read says 2000/2001 onwards.

Tried it on a mate's '99 Corsa and got bugger all out of it (using a
    hand-held OBDII/CAN reader)

Tried the same kit on my 2000 Zafira - no go. Paper clip works fine, with
code reference info from gendan website.

  6. Hi

I tried a Scan tool on a 1997 Vectra. With no success, resorted to paper
    clip method which worked fine.

It Did however work on a V reg Opel Zafira.

    Hope this helps

Ah ha...for some reason I thought I would be able to read thefault
code(s) on my wife's year 2000 Opel Zafira, using the 'paperclip'
method, but it seems I was wrong, it can be done - presumably pins 5&6?

    Sorry - when I typed "would be able" I meant " wouldn't be able" - I'll
go slam my head in a door now :-(

Seeing as how I was unable to read codes with the paperclip method on our
2000 zaf, you can use my door after I've finished doing my head in it :)

LOL..... the thing is "Mike J" further up this thread states he could
read the codes via the papaperclip method on a 2000 zaf. I don't want
to try it until I'm sure I'm not going to blow the crap out of the
    ECU......
