    Hi,
My 93 Opel Astra failed a visual inspection test for broken shock
absorber mountings (they just look a little cracked to me). How would I
replace these? Is it a job for a garage, or a relatively
straightforward operation that I could do myself? Any feedback would be
    appreciated please.

    Regards,
    Brendan.

Aurely 'a little cracked' means broken? Either they are
    intact/undamaged or they are not?

    Front or rear?

If rear then should be a doddle - although in my experience if the rear
mountings are perished or starting to crack up, then it's usually the case
that the dampers have been on the car for a long time so it might be worth
replacing those as well, they are not very expensive and should be easy to
fit. On these cars however you might need a special shaped socket to undo
    the special shaped bolts!.

if the fronts - sure they don't mean some other bush? - might be worth
    double-checking first to see
