    Hi all.

I have to replace the heater on my 96 vectra 1.7 (isuzu) diesel. I think the
frost got to it maybe as it dumps all the coolant into the passenger
footwell, and when I turn up the fan while on demist I get a hot shower of
water out of the windscreen vents!

Anyone got any hints/tips etc on how to get the bugger out?

Also I figure on getting another one from a breakers. Would any vectra
heater fit, as mine is a bit of a rare beast these days.

    TIA.

I looked into in on my carlton, took all the screws etc out of the
dash and still can't work out how to get it out. I think it my case
though it's just all full of leaves and mud.

    called a Cavalier)

Thats right, its a vectra B. I've managed to find out that there are 2
heater cores for my model vectra, aircon and non-aircon. Mine is the non
aircon variety. I'm not going to buy any parts until I have the old one out,
as I dont know just what has gone. It may be the core, or the piping to it,
or even the valve that shuts the water off. When it went, I tried turning it
to cold, in an effort to stem the water loss, but if anything that seemed to
    make it worse.

I'm hoping it hasnt done any damage to the electronics as the speedo died
with a gasp and a whimper. With a bit of luck it just got wet and will
    recover when dry.

But I think I am going to make it up as I go along, as I dont have a book
for the car, and I think I will start with the passenger side and work my
way up to see what I can find.

Still living in hope that someone has done this before and can pass on any
    hints etc...

Well my second Omega developed a mild heater matrix leak ( nowhere
near as dramatic as yours) I had a look in the Haynes book of Jokes,
and this stated that you have to take pretty much the entire dashboard
assembly out, the Vectra is probably similar. So I chucked some
radweld in and that held until I'd worn the rest of the car out, I
realise that won't work for you. Just be prepared for a lot of work to
    change the matrix.

Now thats VERY interesting. It looks like I can remove the core without
having to gut most of the dash, something that has been worrying me.

Another thing that I can see is that the temperature control knob doesnt
actually throttle off the flow of water, as in heaters that I have messed
with in the past. It looks more like the heat control is in fact just an
airflow control knob that bypasses the heater core to a greater or lesser
extent. So my turning down the temperature (see my original post) in fact
had no effect whatsoever on the rate of water loss.

Thanks for that-I'll let everyone know how I go on after I have a go at it
    this weekend.

  10. All of the latest models do not have a cut off valve for the heater to
    cut off the refrigarator fluid.
Hope to solve you problem easily
