Relays in the fuse box

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by Adrian Hodgson, Oct 23, 2005.

  1. A note of warning to watchers.

Due not try to replace the relays in the fuse box with any standard relays
from the accessory shop with out serious consideration first.

The front wiper relay was intermittent on my 96 Vectra. So instead of going
to Vauxhall for a replacement I picked up a pin for pin replacement relay
from an acc. shop. 30 amp change over type.

What I had not bargained for was the diode the new relay has across its
coil. This caused a short circuit path in the Multimeter section of the
fuse box and burnt out some trac.

Luckily the track could be repaired and the board works again, but just a
cautionary note to other not aware.

    Cheers

    Adrian
