Radio/CD changer problems

My son has just bought an S reg Vectra with a factory fitted Philips
CAR 400 radio. He was offered a Blaupunkt CD changer which he was told
came out of the same car with the same radio fitted. We managed to
find the CD connector tucked behind the glove box and plugged it in.
Nothing happened and then we figured that a fuse needed to be fitted
for the changer. Fitted fuse but the radio refuses to acknowledge the
    changer is there?
He's been told he needs to put in a code (which he's got) to
    'activate' the changer?

    The changer model/type is CDC2 (940 462 566).

Anyone know if this combo will actually work and if so, how do we get
    it to recognise the changer?

I've checked the back of the radio and there is a CD connector which
is wired to the plug we found so obviously it can have a changer
    connected to it.
    TIA

    cheers,
    Len

Nope! That only changes radio/tape. the Car400 is not able to control a CD
changer, I just read my owners manuals to confirm it. Only the 500 and up
can be used with a CD changer.

Quote from the Vauxhall manual "All radio and cassette functions for the
CAR400 and CCR600 are identical however the CCR600 will also operate a
    6 disk CD auto changer".
So they both look the same (except for the model number on the cassette
flap) but the CAR400 wont operate the CD changer. Have you been given
the wrong one or has someone pulled a fast one on you???

Looks like someone 'mistook' the radio on the other car! If he can get
hold of a CCR600, will it just slot in AND give the centre display as
well as controlling the CD changer? If not then all is not lost as I
have a Phillips radio in my PUG 306 which has the wiring already there
for a changer and I know that model will control a changer as it has a
    source button on it.

    cheers,

Looks like it will. The vauxhall audio manual certainly implies so.

Mine is a Car 400 in an Astra - its the radio cassette, not the radio + CD
and as far as I have been able to find out is not the one that you can fit
    the CD autochanger to.

IF you can get a CCR600 it will be OK.

On a separate issue, the Peugeot stereo may be a Philips but it may not be
    compatible with the Vauxhall autochanger.

Good luck. I hope one the above works out.
