I lost power steering and called the AA they came but said it was electrical and could not trace the fault so off we went to the dealers.
Dealer says filling the fluid level up as it was slightly down brought back power steering intermittently but not fully so I need a new control unit but as this is only attached to the pump I need to pay £600 for the unit plus £100 for fitting plus Front spring is broke and needs replacing for another £100.

All within weeks of running out of warranty in three years it has had four wheel bearings and a rear spring replaced plus a new heat shield fitted!

is this a fair cost for the power unit?

If you have full VX service history I would approach Vauxhall Customer
Services for a contribution as these sorts of things are not considered
"consumables". Stress to them your disappointment at such a major component
failing so early in the vehicles life. All it will cost you is a phone call
or cheaper still a stamp. I have had the garage phone Vauxhall Customer
Services on my behalf [did not get anything on this occasion due to cars
high mileage and it was dodgy brake discs, but on other previous cars I have
had a new ECU, due to pinking and a flash software failing, rubber seals
replaced due to water ingress as well as a substantial discount of my
current car when delivery was delayed 10 weeks beyond original delivery
date]. Well worth a try and let us know the outcome.

Kinda knew it was Vectra C. Get onto Vauxhall Customer service and get a
case number to give to your dealer to get it done under goodwill. With the
higher mileage you might not get 100%, but you should be able to negotiate
    something.
