P code 05050 on 1.8 Zafira

I have a Vreg Zafira 1.8 with 85K miles on the clock, last week it started
misfiring and the engine management light came on, I plugged in a fault code
reader and got code 0505 "Idle Control System Malfunction".

This car is fitted with a throttle body that has the idle motor built into
it. This part was replaced about a year ago. I replaced the O2 sensor,
little or no difference, I have fitted a replacement throttle body from a
scrapyard and still have the same fault.



When driving the car the engine management light occasionally goes out for a
mile or so and the car runs fine. When the light is on the whole rev range
is affected.



What else can cause this fault?

I am thinking of buying a fault reader that plugs into a PC, has anyone any
recommendations on which one to buy

Not got a clue I'm afraid but try asking on something like the Vauxhall
