As subject really, whats the best route for Edinburgh? follow the A1 or
    take the A68.
Best in terms of least hassle, most likely to complete the journey, not
getting stuck behind 200 slow vehicles?

    Depends where you are.

I live on the A1 35 miles from Edinburgh and I used to live in Manchester

I used to travel each week between the two and went every possible way to
    save time and hassle ( A1 A68 A7 etc.)

With the new improvements to the A1 I always now travel the A1 as 99.9% of
    it is dual carriageway now

If time is not an issue A7 and A68 are both nicer views but the roads are
twisting at times and often have tractors etc. on them at this time of year.

Thanks Olliebears1, I had a hunch that might be the case. A68 probably
has lovely views, but getting there is more important.
www.viamichelin.com suggests that from here there is only 23 miles
difference in distance and 3 mins in time!
