Omega rear lights problems

  1. Hello all,

I've just started to get some weird problems with the rear lights of my
Omega, in short I am finding that when I turn the side lights on, ALL of the
lights at the back of the car come on (excluding the indicators), even the
LED lights in the rear window.

One of my neighbours thinks that the fog lights are on permanently, despite
them being set to off. However I have tried taking out the fuse for the rear
fog lights, and this appeared to make no difference, which makes me think it
is nothing to do with the fog light circuit.

Has anyone here experienced anything similar, and do you have any
suggestions as to how it can be fixed?

    Cheers
    Jon

Are all the lights at normal brightness or rather dim? If the latter
then my starting point would be looking for dodgy earths.

  3. Hi

    Thanks for your message,

The lights all appear to be at normal brightness, so I don't think it is an
    earthing issue.
I've had earthing problems in the past (on a Ford Sierra) and it resulted in
the brake lights flashing whenever the indicators were on. I am not
suffering anything like that with this car.

    Cheers

    Jon,

Have you changed any of the bulbs recently, or done any work on the back
of the car? I'm plucking at straws here, but I've seen some weird
effects from having the wrong bulbs fitted (with solder contacts
displaced by 90 degrees compared to original ones) on other vehicles.

maybe you could try removing the bulbs one at a time to see if you can
figure out which circuit might be the culprit.

  6. Hi all,

I've discovered what the problem was - it was a dodgy bulb recently bought
from Halfords. It was the bulb which has the two filaments in it - it turns
out the filaments are shorted out and therefore making a connection between
the braking light circuit and the tail light circuit. Am off to get my money
back and have a winge at them right now......
