Omega B Rocker Cover Gasket

Discussion in 'Omega' started by Patrick E. King, Mar 1, 2007.

  1. I recently purchased only the above gasket for my 1998 Omega B 2L Petrol
    Ecotec X20XEV.
On checking in Haynes later I noted that it is suggested that the 'O'-Rings
be replaced at the same the same time and also that a recommended sealant be
    used in places.
Are these always necessary in addition to the gasket?
    TIA
    Patrick

The BLACK sealant is necessary, it must be the black one since it stays
flexible but some dealers are insisting it must be the green one. The
green one is for the camshaft bearing end caps (metal to metal) and
sets rock hard and is not suitable for the gasket. You need the sealant
where the gasket turns 90% only and not the whole length.

You may get away without the new O rings at the bolt holes but they
aren't very expensive and will prevent oil leaking up the screw hole.

Make sure you clear out the breather pipes while you're at it, if you
don't want to be doing the same job again in a few months.
