  1. Hi I hope somebody can help

I have tried the rover forum but have had no replies hoping somebody here
    can help.

I have a P reg rover 114, which up until now has been a good little runner.
The problem is the car starts first time, unless its first thing in the
morning, the car turns over but no ignition. When the car starts it sounds
and runs smooth, until it starts to get hot, then it starts to splutter and
shudder and eventually stalls and will not start for approximately 5
minutes. along with this there is a strong smell of petrol. i don't know
much about cars, but could it be the automatic choke staying on and or not
coming off first thing in the morning.

    thanks

    darren

Try looking at the autochoke, does it stay on permanently ?

put your foot all the way to the floor on the accelerator once BEFORE
    turning the ignition on.

Then turn the engine over and it should start and run without any further
    use of the accelerator.

Check the position of the autochoke.

Leave it running for 5 mins and check to see the position of the autochoke,
    has it moved ?

(also try removing the air filter, if this works, replace the air filter
    !!!)

    Hope this helps ...
