noisy diesel astra.

I have got two 2.0lt diesel astras. one on a high mileage 210,000 the other
on about 50,000.
the lower mileage one is extremely noisy at the front end. don't think it is
the cam chain and the exhaust is not leaking.
could it be the catalytic converter if it has one ??

or any other ideas??
