Noisey engine

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by Steve Buckley, Aug 31, 2006.

  1. I have a 03 Zafira (1.8 Design) and the engine has developed a strange noise
it sounds like a diesel engine close up. The noise seems to be coming from
near the alternator. Anybody else had this problem or know what it it might
be, before i take it to my local dealer?

It could well be your water pump and as this is driven by the timing belt it
will cause a large amount of damage to both your engine and bank balance if
    it fails.
    Get it checked ASAP.
By the way - have you checked your oil level?

I had something similar on a Carlton and that was the water pump
bearings. The pump was totally knackered when I took it off.

The other thing could be a worn camshaft - have a look through the oil
filler cap - the cam lobes should be pretty much flat across the top.
