    Hi

    Just picked up a S 1998 Omega 2.0 16v cd for £1500.00.

It has 12 months ticket on it but has done 125,000 miles hence low price.

It has main dealer service history up till July this year - so hopefully it
    has been maintained well.

Just a couple of questions - is there anything in particular I should
look/check for on an Omega this age?

Also it has a Trafficmaster button but when i press it the word "phone"
comes up in display - does this mean i need to phone trafficmaster to
    activate it.

I checked all the electrics etc worked b4 buying and the only thing i cant
get working is the volume/radio station controls on the steering wheel - any
    ideas?

    Thanks

    Dave, Oldham UK.

I will check in the morning -its just a standard radio/cassette - its the
original one - the frequency etc appears in the digital dash display.

traffic master switches the stereo off when talking. The same as the in-car
phone cradle. I hired a vectra couple of years ago which when traffic master
spoke, the radio was muted and phone was on display. I can't remember if tm
used the radios speakers though. My astra at the time had in car cradle but
no tm and when phone rang, radio was muted and phone was displayed.

    hope this helps

It appears Traffic Master isnt working. I rang them this morning and they
said "phone" meant to phone to phone them and reactivate it.

However he told me to press the tm button 4 times and it will tell me a
liscence number that will allow them to activate it.

But this didn't work - it doesnt say anything (and i did have the radio
    switched on).

Any ideas - its obviously kinda working as when u press the tm button the
    display says to phone them!!

    *Exactly* which radio is fitted?
The reason for asking is that if the proper original posh radio has been
removed (say it was the CCRT700 - the radio and phone version) and
replaced with a cheapie (say the CAR400 or similar) and the various bits
haven't been reconnected or have no connection, then the steering wheel
controls and traffic master wont work.

Its a Car200 - thought thi was the original as the freq etc is displayed in
    the info screen.

So what was originally installed in there?

    Dave - BTW Its a 98 s omega 2.0 cd.

    Thanks

A Car200? I would have thought that's bottom of the pile for a CD Omega.
I would guess that it would have had either the posh CCRT700 or similar
    with a CD multichanger.
Cue Alan for comment about a suitable radio or the correct radio?
Re-fitting the correct radio type might very well depend on what else
was ripped out at the same time as the original radio ? ? ?

    I have a '97 P 2.5v6 CD Dave and it came with a CDR500. I can't
remember if the radio changed with the engine but I think it was only
traction control, speed assisted steering and ooomph that came as
    extra.

I don't think radios were put in at manufacture so if the car went to a
Vauxhall employee for a while they may have saved a few pounds and put
    the CAR200 in.

Alan can supply and he posts in here fairly regularly so it might be
worth looking back for his email address. Some of the more expensive
head units form the like of Kenwood and Sony can support the display,
steering wheel control and mute facility but they are pricy.
