New Astra - adding non-Vauxhall CD player?

Does anyone know whether one can add a "third-party" CD/radio unit to
    the new Astra (2004)?

From the brochure the multi-function display looks to be tightly tied
in to the CD - have they designed this so that one can only fit a
    Vauxhall audio unit?

(That would be bad news for skinflints like me looking to buy the
lowest-spec model, and also for anyone faced with replacing a failed
    unit later on)

Vauxhall sell an adapter plate which will take a standard size CD player.
    Other people do too.

Vauxhall also sell the CD players at a competitive price. Talk to your
dealer before buying elsewhere as the standard one works with the remote
    display without modification.

He's on about the "NEW" Astra Alan, how would you know this when it has only
    just come out?
