My Whistling Zafira

Zafira 1.6 petrol, 06 Reg. Loud'ish whistling sound coming from engine bay,
sounds like an induction vacuum leak. You can play a tune on it with the
accelerator pedal when engine under moderate load. Car drives ok but noise
embarrasing. Dealer can't figure it. Anyone heard of this please, appreciate
any help.Thanks.
 
Go back to your dealer - this is a known problem with the Z16XEP engine -
there is a modified throttle body and breather pipe that will need
ordering/fitting - it will be as quiet as a mouse after.

Is this subject to a recall? I have a July 06 (New shape) Zafira 1.6 Life
(petrol) , is this engine in mine? I do not have any noise as far as I can
tell but should I go to my dealer anyway?

my 53 plate 1.8 petrol with only 16000 miles is a whistler too! drives ok
etc. but even with careful driving only does 25mpg. except on motorway,when
it gives 35mpg. at steady 60mph.
Has passed its` first m.o.t. which presumably includes an emission
check,also no fault codes showing etc. Would the the throttle body
mod. also apply to the 1.8 engine and mebbe improve m.p.g. but
more worrying,if no action taken is the engine likely to be damaged?

It is only the new shape Zafira Z16XEP engines that whistle. Can't remember
if it covers Astra as well. It is not a recall but is just a repair that is
done when the customer notices the fault - some are louder than others.
It will not damage the engine if left it is just the air going down the pipe
into the throttle body that creates the whistle noise.
