this one has me stumped as such.

as above, seeming to misfire, but no bangs, low power on acceleration, very
    jerky ride.

    done usual ICV,
    plugs [tri-spark now fitted]
new leads [not done coil pack]
    no ECU faults showing! bugger!!

sort of co-incided after changing top gasket following it blowing and oil
    filling leads/spark plug area.
complete new cat/exhaust fitted at same time.
    O2 sensor wires checked also

thinking down the lines of the EGR valve needs a clean or maybe that tiny
hole in the butterfly of the throttle body?

seems also to be using more fuel, but as the price has gone up so much, diff
to know if the wife is just being paranoid
or just a case of less petrol to a tenner!

    mostly tesco petrol used
    halfords semi synth oil.

did get overfiled by about 1ltr as the sump did show empty after gasket blew
    but wasnt!

    any thoughts or pointers please

o2 sensor not doing its thing?
heard that it can cause this.

yep i think that will be cleaned also if poss.
just done the EGR valve and it's engine block channels & that has inproved
    thing.
my next step is going to be attacking the butterfly breather hole in the
    throttle body.
that seems about the next candidate.
i'll be looking on the net tomorrow for a guide or two just to brush up on
what to do. & look for.

the biggest pig will be its a sintra and its under the dash overhang so to
speak, space is tight but i think once the airintake is out he way
    it should be easy.
i'll let you know how i get on.
but the ERG certain was worth doing.
the valve was not sticking, but the channels away from it on the block were!
good dose of WD40 and a poke with its red sleeve soon cleared it through.

im slightly puzzling if i have overheating in the first 2 cylinders as the
new spark plug are showing signs of heat damage on the ceramic insulators,
but no alarming indication on the temp gauge
all is normal, but its back to pulling on acceleration now , so im getting
    there.

Long shot I know, and I dont know if you want to be bothered, but try
swapping injectors 1&2 for 3&4. I'm thinking that if theres a (very
slight)blockage then you might have 1&2 running ever so slighly lean on the
mix. A bit fancifull I know, but short of a waterway blockage or an air
    bubble its all I've got.

Maybe if the EGR was not circulating properly to the first 2 cylinders
this would increase the temperature in these cylinders?

Sounds like something's up with the timing e.g. crank sensor or dizzy
    cap.

well i thought id try a few stupid things first.
    like another set of plugs........
........bingo, got a set of NKG's from a local shop.

after a nwee bit of blowing out, shes running fine,
good accelerating even in 5th uphill without a hiccup in sight!

so i think it was just a sad trail of events that caused it
    rocker gasket went
    oil in cylinders
    changed plugs/leads
EGR vave finally gave up at the same times
small tube from head to throttle blocked
    change of spark plugs

my acid test will be if i get the fuel consumption back.

now, im going to check a certain large retailer sold me the correct
    sparkplug in the first place

    thanks guys

though if anyone known og a guide on the net for down the throttle etc etc
i'd like a look at it.
there are more than 1 thin pipe at the back that must be gummed up or close
    to by now

Obviously not first in the queue for manners, politeness or tolerance! - or
    even punctuation!

Not that I'm perfect - I don't claim to be.

    Cheerio now

Probably best not to respond to straight talker - that way he might go away
and make a nuisance of himself in another news group.
