Hi, My sister is after buying a corsa (she hasn't passd her test yet) though
she isn't far off. Its costing her £30 a lesson - she calls two lesson one
and she can drive these. I'm just wondering what engine gives low tax and
    do they have any faults?

    http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/taxation.htm#Private

If she's buying new or a car registered from March 1 2001, both the 1.0 or
the 1.2 have £105 pa road tax.

Most Corsas registered before that qualify for £110 pa road tax as this is a
    band up to 1549cc.

The Corsa is a decent motor, well made and reliable.

I'd avoid the 1.0 though - they're okay around town but desperately
underpowered in all other driving; the first time you go on a motorway
you'll regret buying it. The 1.2 16v is a great engine and worth the extra
    cost.

Earlier 1.2 engines are 8v (phased out mid-98) and are pretty flat. If
going for an earlier car try and find a 1.4.

I would consider insurance costs before road tax. Road tax varies less than
£100 pa whilst insurance can differ by £1,000!

Having said that, Corsa 1.0 12v is group insurance and cheap tax.

Corsa 1.2 is probably group 2 and still fairly cheap tax
