Ok have posted here before and received some great help, so hopefully one of
you out there can help again.

This is quite a long description of the problem, but I think all is
    required.

Have a G reg 2L Cavalier, which I was told was professionally lowered, and
tuned. I believe this to be true.

Last year I had the front bearings replaced to get rid of a knocking noise I
had decided was due to their demise, and this was seconded by my trusted
    local garage.

On getting the car back the mechanic told me he had a problem in that the
nut used to hold the McPherson strut together, prior to fitting to the car,
was missing on both sides, and because of this the cupped top plates were
    miss shaped.

I was some what worried about this, and so just recently I have replaced
these nuts, and one of the steering bearings but the noise still persists.

It is more predominate when turning left with a bit of speed, as if
something is moving into place, which is why I replaced the parts of the
    front suspension earlier.

I have been round and checked all bearings for play, and found none.

All seams tight, and while having the front suspension dismantled I could
find nothing wrong with any of the rubber bushes, or ball joints.

totally stumped, and not too keen on letting the local garage take charge as
looking for the problem is likely to cost a lot of time, so money.

It does not sound like a CV joint, have had these go before on another car,
as it just knocks with a dull thud once. No grating or vibration.

Sometimes it can be felt on the peddles with my feet, but I can find no play
in any of the engine, or gearbox mountings

I know this is very hard to advise on, as you cannot hear, or feel the
problem, but any honest suggestions will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advice for any help you can offer, and again for reading this far.

    Cheers Vaughn

Despite your checks I would be having a very close look at the
engine/gearbox mountings. Try jacking he engine up to see if one has failed.

pop the bonnet and get a helper to give the engine a few revs and check for
play in the engine and box mounts failing that have a close look at the
    brakes and pendulums

Sounds just like the problem I had on an H reg Cavalier 1.8GLS.
There was no play at all in the bearings, and the suspension bushes were
fine too. Fitted new front shocks but the noise was still there (as you say,
sounds like something was moving back into place every now and again) , the
garage was stumped on this one.
However the noise decreased in volume when I had the CV joint re-packed with
grease, and I wonder if the CV was the problem. But I don't have the car
    anymore.
