Knock sensor for VAUXHALL INSIGNIA

    Please can anyone tell me what a knock sensor does, as I have been advised by a garage that the reason why there is loads of whites smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe is that water has got into this and it will be about £350 - £400. It is a 2 litre turbo diesel Insignia.
